PORTAL III Triennial
Site specific light installation at Yedikule Dungeons Tower
Istanbul, Turkey, May–June 2022
At the Yedikule Dungeons, Mareo introduces a subtle line of light within a space shaped by centuries of confinement and memory. Inspired by the geological fissure of the Bosphorus, dividing the European and Asian sides of Istanbul, the intervention traces a delicate fracture across the stone, creating a quiet dialogue between separation and connection.
Rather than imposing itself, the work responds to the architecture. This luminous fissure becomes a portal, an opening that invites reflection on time, captivity, and the possibility of transformation.
